Writing this is incredibly bittersweet. A year ago when I announced I would retire, I could not have imagined how quickly the time would go by. I have enjoyed serving our community over the last 32 years in the General Assembly. It has truly been an honor serving as the state representative for House District 58, and I am grateful for the faith and support our community has put in me over the years.

One of the worst data breaches on record occurred in September 2017, when the credit-reporting bureau Equifax announced the personal information of more than 147 million consumers, including almost 4 million Hoosiers, was exposed.

A Bloomington bridge is now officially renamed in honor of a fallen Monroe County sheriff's deputy following a resolution authored by State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) during the 2020 legislative session.

Bartels: Helping Hoosiers afford prescriptions

On average, Americans spend approximately $1,200 a year on prescription drugs. While Indiana has taken steps to curb costs, there is still work to do to make prescribed medications more affordable for Hoosiers. Through legislation I am working on for the upcoming session, Indiana could join 21 other states allowing pre-approved medical facilities to distribute donated medications and supplies.
