Access to high-quality, affordable healthcare remains one of the most pressing challenges in our state, particularly in our rural areas. As your state representative, addressing this issue is a priority and I am excited to share that nearly $13 million in federal Grow Rural Opportunities for Well-being (GROW) grants are coming to Northwest Indiana, including Fulton, Jasper, Marshall, Newton, Elkhart, Pulaski and Starke counties.
Indiana's economy is growing. Businesses are investing and creating jobs, and communities across our state are attracting new residents. Indiana leads the Midwest in both economic and population growth. Carmel and Fishers were ranked the first- and second-best places to live in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
The reason that growth is happening is because Indiana has made it affordable to start and grow a business, build a career and raise a family. Protecting and strengthening that affordability will be key to sustaining our momentum and providing even more opportunities for Hoosiers.
Hoosier students deserve an education system that prepares them not just to graduate but to succeed in today's economy – and Indiana is leading the way.
In the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress, Indiana ranked sixth in the nation in reading for both fourth and eighth grade students, while math scores showed progress for fourth-graders who ranked ninth after previously ranking 11th. WalletHub ranked Indiana as having the eighth best school system in the country for 2025.
For families across Indiana, affordability is an issue they feel every day when they see what's left in their budgets after paying for essentials like groceries, housing, transportation and utilities. Every Hoosier needs electricity, so keeping it reliable and affordable must remain a priority.
September is National Preparedness Month, which is a good time for Hoosier families to review their emergency plans and make sure they are ready for severe weather and other emergencies.
